In Antigua Guatemala, Carlos Morales is known as “el Señor de las Aves” or Lord of the birds. He lives and works in San Felipe de Jesus, on the outskirts of Antigua, in the house where he was raised by his grandmother. All of his tiny bird sculptures are formed and painted entirely by hand, often using photographs to create figures which are both beautiful and realistic. He began at the age of 13 as an apprentice with a local artisan and has been shaping these small creatures now for more than 30 years.
